Current Status

The Government of Odisha initiated land acquisition proceedings for 6,000 acres of private land in 2006, out of which about 3800 acres (including government land) have already been acquired, and possession handed over to the Foundation for the purpose of establishment of the proposed Vedanta University near Puri. Subsequently the matter was challenged and is sub-judice in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

Architectural plans have been drawn up for the following buildings:

  • Floor plan and elevation drawing of six academic blocks
  • Floor plan and elevation drawing of hospital block
  • Floor plan and elevation drawing of the library building
  • Floor plan and elevation drawing of five residential building types
  • Floor plan and elevation drawing of two utility blocks

The total value of contracts awarded by the Foundation by the year 2010 exceeded Rs. 300 crores. The National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad has been engaged for preparation of a feasibility report for setting up an Institute of Design under the Vedanta University. The report will help Vedanta University to frame its overall concept, vision and mission, organizational structure, activities such as academic and professional short-term and long term programs, impact, etc.
