Disaster Management: Flood Relief During the disastrous flood that hit the coastal belt of Orissa, during the monsoon of 2008, the Vedanta Group Chairman, Mr. Anil Agarwal, donated an amount of Rs 30 million to the Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund. At the Local level at Puri and adjacent areas large-scale flood-relief measures were undertaken by the Vedanta University Project team. - A Disaster Management Cell was opened, operating round the clock over a period of 15 days.
- A Relief Army was created involving a large number of local village youth.
- Relief materials including 200.000 biscuit packets, eight quintals of Poha ( flattened rice), five quintals of jaggery, 200.000 drinking water pouches, 6000 polythene sheets (to protect from continuous rainfall) and five hundred special relief kits were distributed to 6000 families through the State Govt. and District Emergency Cell.
- The relief operations covered five blocks including Puri, Pipili, Delang, Kanas and Satyabadi areas within a span of 15 days.
